Defining the term "rip off" in music: releasing a product (CD / DVD) of a band just because they are quite popular as we speak. Take for example this live CD. Shaaman (keep in mind that this album was released under the Shaman moniker) with only one album on their back released this live CD of their – pretty much – entire album performed live. So what?

Recorded live in Sao Paulo, in front of more than 7000 people, reaching the maximum capacity of the Credicard Hall, this is proof that Shaman could stare at the leftovers of Angra stright in the eyes (though time prove them wrong) and nothing more. Indeed, the band kicks ass live. Theyre up tempo, yet quite dramatic which makes the arena go berserk. Couldnt be the other way around. Songs like "Here I Am" or "Pride" are real dynamites, not to mention that they sound even heavier when performed live.

Lets not forget to mention that in this show Shaaman had a few special guests: Tobias Sammet of Edguy dropped in, Andi Deris and Michael Weikath of "the band formerly known as Helloween" jam on "Eagle Fly Free" (let it go guys, there is only one Kiske). But are all these goodies enough to convince us to buy this album? I will let you decide about this.

Personally I believe this live is a total waste of money for fans of Power Metal. The music inside is great, no doubt about it, after all Shaaman consists of amazing players. The CD also contains a video of the song "Carry On". The bottom line is that this CD is the live version of "Ritual". Nothing more, nothing less…

2.5 out of 5 – mediocre

About Janus

Janus Aureus is my recently-inaugurated personal blog (written in portuguese, but with some texts in english as well). Fiore Rouge is my old (but still very active - in fact, more than Janus :P) blog (I started it back in 2005). Mentalize is a fan-made website (since 2005). if you wish to contact me for any reason, visit my blog and leave a comment OR see email above (top left) - no, my name's not Andre - actually, I'm not even a guy! LOL Long story...
